The 15th Metro FM Music Awards has set aside at least R1.7 million in prize money for its seventeen categories celebrating South African music greatness

For a fourth year in a row, the 15th Metro FM Music Awards returns to theĀ Inkosi Luthuli Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal on 27 February. Nominations for the awards opened 12 November 2015 and ran through 11 December 2015.

With seventeen awards on the bill this year, Metro FM has announced that, in addition to the sleek, silver M trophy, each category winner will walk away with a R100 000 cash prize. That works out to a total of at least R1.7 million in cash prizes.

This year, the awards introduces a new Africa award recognising artists within the continent who are also making incredible contributions to music. “This is in the spirit of oneness, as we believe that we are one Africa,” says Group Executive: Radio, Mr. Lesley Ntloko.

The 15th Metro FM Music Awards will also feature a music workshop, comedy showcase and fashion show in bid to “bring about new and innovative ideas to the [Metro FM Music] Awards property”.
