DJ Dimplez scores his first #1 on the 5FM Top 40
We cannot deny – it’s one of our favourite songs here at FDBQ. And who can say they haven’t attempted the “Yaya” dance at least once?
It’s precisely this infectious appeal of DJ Dimplez’s “Yaya” that has taken the track atop the 5FM Top 40 chart. With 5FM being an urban youth radio station (and possibly seen as the premier version of its kind in the country) a place on its Top 40 chart has become quite a coveted achievement in music, and of course topping it is even better. We’ve seen this in the way that some artists have attacked the station for “resisting change and thus denying 5FM to black masses”. This isn’t Dimplez’s first time on the chart; his first hit single “Toast” featuring JR and George Avakian peaked at #2 on the chart.
“Yaya” is produced by Dimplez and co-produced by featured artist, Anatii. Dimplez is in the process of completing his studio album which will boast 18 tracks and feature some of the biggest names in local music; Cassper Nyovest, Ma E, L-Tido, Maggz, Kwesta among them. On why he does what he does, Dimplez simply and emphatically stated, “I didn’t feel that local hip hop had enough club hits to play in the club.”
